Our history

Lubmarine has grown from lubricating 40 second world war vessels in 1952 to becoming a global leader in maritime lubrication, supporting over 8,000 vessels every year not to mention supporting power generation companies around the world also. Build on passion, innovation and vision, Lubmarine is today fully engaged to support its customers in a collective journey towards performance and sustainability.

Liberty Ship

Lubmarine’s history began in 1952, when a small petroleum business based in France named ANTAR merged with SERCO, inheriting a small piece of marine business consisting of the lubrication (300 t/y) of around 40 steam cargo vessels that has been used as ‘Liberty Ships’ during the WWII.

The international distribution network started to grow between 1960 and 1970, first with partners, thanks to the AntarMarine International Association and AntarLubMarine.

Antar and Elf merged late 1979, and the brand became Elf Lubmarine, one of the top 4 marine lubricant suppliers worldwide developing an extensive network.

Elf became Total, the emergence of the large container ships in the 90’s powered by a new breed of marine engines drove the need for further lubrication formulation development : the result was the launch of a new formulation for the Talusia range with the blockbuster Talusia Universal.
